hi all, got macbook pro mid 2012 model. other day refused boot up, temperature under battery increased quite rapidly point couldn't bear heat , froze on grey screen ten minutes before displaying prohibited sign. bought on educational package under assumption covered 3 years, incidentally sales person had advised me of when purchased. ring apple , through tells me isn't under warranty. well, i'm not idiot on king of thing tried fix it. went disk utilities , tested ok. tried booting in safe mode mid way through command line information froze , black background went white , corrupted. @ point i'm thinking maybe graphics card here. next step boot off external drive , well. perhaps not graphics after all. time take old hard drive out , try installing ssd. worked perfection. no issues, appears , machine bit of speed demon. old hdd went enclosure , dragged data onto ssd. @ point call apple. apologising

i have 2012 mac mini 2 external wd hard drives hooked (usb3.0). both drives formatted hfs+. when first boot, hard drives fine. disk utility says verify fine, no action taken if attempt repair them, etc. well. @ point (haven't figured out how tell "when" happens, less why) files no longer appear. hard drives report proper size\available space, if open of top level directories in finder, they're empty, , applications expect files there, find nothing. attempting verify or repair disk @ point throws bunch of errors. can force eject drive if want to, can't mount again. when reboot - well. disk utility happy again. smart reports drives have no issues. i'd chalk failing hard drive, it's happening 2 newer drives, seems unlikely. have both drives encrypted using filevault2 - both drives being decrypted see if still happens when drives aren't encrypted... in mean time, has experienced this?
