rMBP: Refurb Late'13 vs New Mid'14

hey all

i'm using late'08 aluminum mb 13", getting quite long in tooth. it's had ram boost 4gb (small today's standards) , samsung 840 ssd thrown in, useful 90% of use (mostly surfing, email, work laptop) when photo editing, gets sluggish.

thinking of getting new mbp, , looking @ refurb store.

question have diff between late 2013s , refreshed mid 2014s? refurb store has nice deal - 15" rmbp i7, 16gb, 512ssd, 750m gfx 2k, considerably cheaper configured new one

plan hook external monitor/kb/mouse use photo editing/work

deal? missing out on going late13 vs mid14?

New 2014 Mac Mini as living room media unit... general questions :)

hi everyone, relatively new apple world (came on android/windows) can impressed , happy made switch hoping insight experts here new setup. got new 2014 mini our living room media unit (will playing music, netflix, movies, internet browsing etc) - havent hooked yet. have 2 bookshelf speakers, 1 sub woofer, , center speaker sound setup goes avr, , of course flat screen tv. 1) question -- mini support 2.1 sound via hdmi avr? losing audio quality or audio features using mac mini? 2) internet browsing, there app or interface make ui better fit living room tv? i've read font/icons can hard read if enlarge them because mac mini not meant big tv? 3) plan plex server , plex media player mac mini, other loading movie/tv collection , playing off tv, there else cool missing here can this? 4) if have mac mini media unit, there purpose in owning roku @ point? thank you!!   ...
