Optimal OS version for Mid-2010 MB

hello,
i've obtained mid-2010 polycarbonate macbook (a1342 mc516*/a; aka macbook 7,1). has been upgraded 8 gigs of ram. best os version run on machine?

i aware capable of running yosemite, best way go 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo machine?

fine older os if meant better overall performance - less lag example, or more stability. not mind paying upgrade/downgrade dvds either. clean install, fine me. , yes, aware newest ones free, while older ones have order , pay for. $20 or whatever take not issue.

i want fastest , stable system particular model. i can live without icloud, don't need else comes on particular version. long can install ms word, dropbox, evernote, endnote x7 , access internet (with necessary plugins browsing today) i'm fine.

imo best os mavericks 10.9.5.

have installed mav on dozen of macbooks 6,1 , 7,1, 4 gb of ram minimum, works perfectly.
must these mac have ssd (crucial mx100 256 gb), not , hd.

New 2014 Mac Mini as living room media unit... general questions :)

hi everyone, relatively new apple world (came on android/windows) can impressed , happy made switch hoping insight experts here new setup. got new 2014 mini our living room media unit (will playing music, netflix, movies, internet browsing etc) - havent hooked yet. have 2 bookshelf speakers, 1 sub woofer, , center speaker sound setup goes avr, , of course flat screen tv. 1) question -- mini support 2.1 sound via hdmi avr? losing audio quality or audio features using mac mini? 2) internet browsing, there app or interface make ui better fit living room tv? i've read font/icons can hard read if enlarge them because mac mini not meant big tv? 3) plan plex server , plex media player mac mini, other loading movie/tv collection , playing off tv, there else cool missing here can this? 4) if have mac mini media unit, there purpose in owning roku @ point? thank you!!   ...
