is there dedicated ssd thread buried somewhere here in mac mini forum? did search , didn't find anything. thought maybe "dedicated" thread might helpful?


anyways have general question looking @ getting ssd upgrade late 2012 i7 mini. want 500-512gb drive. looking best bang buck. limited understanding , reading, samsung (840 pro/850 pro) , crucial m500 seem bang buck. best options bang buck @ moment?
 

let me see how many times 1 can use "bang buck" in paragraph.....

first off, samsung 840/850 pros not "bang buck" because more expensive samsung 840 evo has better "bang buck". crucial m500 has great "bang buck" has been virtually discontinued , best "bang buck" crucial mx100 series replacement best "bang buck" of crucial line. crucial m550 more expensive, faster might find better "bang buck" entirely you...

how many times did use "bank buck"?

real answer there no "dedicated" ssd thread because there no need 1 one. there hundreds of websites tell buy , x ssd has on y ssd. perform in osx in windows. perform no differently in mac mini in other mac (assuming running sataiii controller unlike 2012 , older mac pros had sataii controller).

true bang buck mx100 unless looking super performance, since stated (repeatedly) "bang buck" criteria....

of course @ lesser ssd's crucial mx100 (some of old sandforce 2200 series or psion conroller based ssd's) since have great "bang buck" if want high gigabyte $$ ratio (is bang buck looking for?)....

Getting Prohibitory Sign on startup - But not harddrive

the prohibitory sign appeared when started macbook pro. read through various options listed on forum , none of them fixed problem. assumed hard drive or corrupt operating system. reinstalled os x. still had problem. finally, swapped out old hard drive new hard drive. still had problem!! when tried old hard drive in spouse's macbook pro (same model) booted fine! when hard drive (which working fine) macbook pro, got prohibitory sign. i'm assuming not hard drive other hardware issue in macbook pro. have insights hardware issue might be? thanks!!   huh, that's odd. thought prohibitory sign meant operating system wasn't compatible system trying boot it. try this: whilst turning on system hold command , v keys, system *should* briefly boot verbose , halt @ point prohibitory icon appear. should sort of error/information way luck!   ...

MP4,1 upgraded to 5,1 running for 7 months and now panics

last june upgraded 8-core 2.93 ghz mp4,1 12-core 3.33 ghz 2x x5680 mp5,1. went @ time. has been running latest mavericks os since june 2014. in addition adding/installing 2x hex core x5680s following items installed 1) owc mercury accelsior pcie r0 480gb boot volume 2) 64gb pc10600 (8gbx8) macpro ddr3 ecc (1333 mhz) 3) 2x 240gb owc mercury electra 3g ssd 7mm in bays 1 & 2 fast cache 4) k5000 mac geekbench 3 (64-bit) scores mp4,1 were before upgrade single core = 2347 multi core = 18427 (8 cores @ 2.93 ghz) geekbench 3 (64-bit) scores mp5,1 were after upgrade single = 2714 multi core = 30745 (12 cores @ 3.33 ghz) ran i/o tests pcie 480gb ssd , recorded 680 mb/s ran i/o tests 3g raid-0 240gb ssds , recorded 520 mb/s 2 days (jan 15, 2015) ago upgraded mp started panic... see attached picture example. machine froze up, crashed restarted on , on (for 30 minutes) , kept getting these kernel panics. number @ beginning kept changing each ...
