Fastest way to transfer data between mid-2009 MPB and mid-2012?

i'm trying migrate data 1 mac new 1 , know fastest way transfer between these 2 (or cable , adapters need).

mid-2009 has mini-display port , mid-2012 has thunderbolt. both have firewire 800.
 

just run ethernet cable directly between 2 (no hub... direct) , use migration tool runs part of setup assistant when turn on new mac.

New 2014 Mac Mini as living room media unit... general questions :)

hi everyone, relatively new apple world (came on android/windows) can impressed , happy made switch hoping insight experts here new setup. got new 2014 mini our living room media unit (will playing music, netflix, movies, internet browsing etc) - havent hooked yet. have 2 bookshelf speakers, 1 sub woofer, , center speaker sound setup goes avr, , of course flat screen tv. 1) question -- mini support 2.1 sound via hdmi avr? losing audio quality or audio features using mac mini? 2) internet browsing, there app or interface make ui better fit living room tv? i've read font/icons can hard read if enlarge them because mac mini not meant big tv? 3) plan plex server , plex media player mac mini, other loading movie/tv collection , playing off tv, there else cool missing here can this? 4) if have mac mini media unit, there purpose in owning roku @ point? thank you!!   ...
