MBP to TV via HDMI while booting from USB to install Yosemite

hi.

have 2011 macbook pro, has problem lcd. took out hdd in , installed one. since hdd empty want make clean install of yosemite before selling "not working". anyway, wonder, yosemite usb stick load necessary drivers mirror screen on tv via hdmi?
 

i did boot yosemite install usb stick, while connected tv via hdmi.

booted in extended monitor mode, not monitor mirroring mode. , cmd + f1 command not switch modes.

stuck. :) suggestions?

New 2014 Mac Mini as living room media unit... general questions :)

hi everyone, relatively new apple world (came on android/windows) can impressed , happy made switch hoping insight experts here new setup. got new 2014 mini our living room media unit (will playing music, netflix, movies, internet browsing etc) - havent hooked yet. have 2 bookshelf speakers, 1 sub woofer, , center speaker sound setup goes avr, , of course flat screen tv. 1) question -- mini support 2.1 sound via hdmi avr? losing audio quality or audio features using mac mini? 2) internet browsing, there app or interface make ui better fit living room tv? i've read font/icons can hard read if enlarge them because mac mini not meant big tv? 3) plan plex server , plex media player mac mini, other loading movie/tv collection , playing off tv, there else cool missing here can this? 4) if have mac mini media unit, there purpose in owning roku @ point? thank you!!   ...
