i open suggestions concerning imac 5,2 (late 2006), 17", c2d, 1.83 ghz. ma710ll
bought used , had osx 10.7 lion, on it.
noticed runs okay, sluggish when viewing (web) videos in full screen mode, or when 2 web sites open. videos on small screen fine, full screen, gets choppy @ times , poorly syncs sound video. graphics card gm950 not best, know. is.
not expert far, wonder if slowing down running lion, 2 gb of ram.
understanding after researching this, unlike 2.0 ghz model, cannot upgrade ram above 2 gb (per apple, owc, crucial, , many many posts owners of model). limited maximum amount of memory.
if that's case cannot upgrade ram further, perhaps unit meant run it's original leopard or snow leopard (i have original install disc mac mini). perhaps lion not using existing ram efficiently.
conjecture based upon limited knowledge.
questions:
-anyone have experience situation, of running limited ram on higher resource-using operating system lion?
-does have response or experience, concerning running leopard or snow leopard, on 2 gb, on unit particular configuration?
-any opinion on "rolling back" os, in order better performing machine? or wasting efforts doing that.
comments, suggestions, opinions welcomed.
in advance doncarlos
-oh btw, have cloned system external, have no issue "rolling back", since can bring present state if needed. mentioned before have sl install disc, , have lion installation on usb, mac mini days. , yes, have capability of running fw external version of sl or leopard, rather run appropriate osx internally in imac, if improves performance.
my mother had 1 of , think seeing gets. check cpu tab in activity monitor , if there no rogue utilities chewing cpu cycles, think sort of @ dead end imo.
