External storage for imac

hi, i've ordered 5k 512gb ssd, , raid5/6 storage, videos , photos. off-the-shelf models can see thunderbolt 2 pegasus2 r4/r6 , lacie 2big/5big.

there's lot of bad user reviews older thunderbolt 1 models, , wonder if has tried out thunderbolt 2models success. i'd keen know if has been able compare noise output of models. (i used have readynasnv+ family delighted in switching off because of noise!)

you can software raid5 owc enclosure.

imho, hardware raid5 terrifying. while software imperfect, @ least it's portable. when hardware raid5 controller goes down, must compatible (often exact same) replacement, or can't data. depending on circumstances, mean searching long discontinued parts (sometimes @ exorbitant prices).

that's why won't touch drobo - it's proprietary hell.
