i need advise getting data back. came friend start new admin account. had found online.

"here's 1 method reset password without install disc:

1. boot computer , hold "apple" key , "s" key.
2. wait terminal show
3. release keys
4. type without quotes: "/sbin/mount -uaw"
5. press enter
6. type without quotes: "rm /var/db/.applesetupdone
7. press enter
8. type without quotes: "reboot"
9. press enter

let create new admin account when reboot computer."

when finished realized data had been on there before gone. lost everything, , mean everything. if me recover data most greatful. have imac below specs.

mac os x
version 10.5.8
processor 2.66 ghz intel core 2 duo
memory 2 gb
 

the mac in question has firewire port, correct?

if so, connect mac (that has firewire) , start in "firewire target disk mode".

see controlling (other) mac?

New 2014 Mac Mini as living room media unit... general questions :)

hi everyone, relatively new apple world (came on android/windows) can impressed , happy made switch hoping insight experts here new setup. got new 2014 mini our living room media unit (will playing music, netflix, movies, internet browsing etc) - havent hooked yet. have 2 bookshelf speakers, 1 sub woofer, , center speaker sound setup goes avr, , of course flat screen tv. 1) question -- mini support 2.1 sound via hdmi avr? losing audio quality or audio features using mac mini? 2) internet browsing, there app or interface make ui better fit living room tv? i've read font/icons can hard read if enlarge them because mac mini not meant big tv? 3) plan plex server , plex media player mac mini, other loading movie/tv collection , playing off tv, there else cool missing here can this? 4) if have mac mini media unit, there purpose in owning roku @ point? thank you!!   ...
