Are the retina iMac upgrades worth it?

lately have been thinking upgrading old desktop computer imac. i'm going go retina version have retina macbook pro , screen phenomenal. wondering if of upgrades going worth needs can find base model on sale @ least $100 off. want computer last @ least couple years.

lot of web surfing, reading, , video streaming. video , photo editing using adobe softwares. 2 biggest upgrades i'm thinking processor , ram. i5 sufficient processor in long run? ram want upgrade heard can lot cheaper. i'm considering upgrading video card don't think need needs. hard drive i'm not concerned , far have read positive things standard fusion drive.

lastly think it's worth buying retina model or think best wait until next refresh?

i have older imac i7 2.8 added new i7 retina 32gb of ram , upgraded video card. after month of ownership it's not feeling right decision considering price paid. upgraded older 1 ssd , kept stock drive time machine backup , pictures. in benchmarks new 1 2x fast in real world minus amazing screen don't see difference.

New 2014 Mac Mini as living room media unit... general questions :)

hi everyone, relatively new apple world (came on android/windows) can impressed , happy made switch hoping insight experts here new setup. got new 2014 mini our living room media unit (will playing music, netflix, movies, internet browsing etc) - havent hooked yet. have 2 bookshelf speakers, 1 sub woofer, , center speaker sound setup goes avr, , of course flat screen tv. 1) question -- mini support 2.1 sound via hdmi avr? losing audio quality or audio features using mac mini? 2) internet browsing, there app or interface make ui better fit living room tv? i've read font/icons can hard read if enlarge them because mac mini not meant big tv? 3) plan plex server , plex media player mac mini, other loading movie/tv collection , playing off tv, there else cool missing here can this? 4) if have mac mini media unit, there purpose in owning roku @ point? thank you!!   ...
