Squeezing maximum battery life on Macbook Air 13, mid 2011

hi, got little dilemma here, perhaps guys can me , provide advice.

flying long distance flight soon. 8 hour flight + 2 hours transit + 8 hour flight.

torn between taking asus laptop or macbook air 13 mid 2011 i7 1.8ghz.

i've taken asus on same flight before, asus has removable battery, , each battery lasts around 8 hours, survive flight. power brick, power cord, , battery adds lot of weight.

whereas macbook is, know, far lighter, power brick more compact. battery replaced, charge cycle of 5.

wondering:
- anyway squeeze 7 8 hours macbook air, won't using wifi, might watch few movies.
- i'm not quite mac guy, chance can squeeze kind of battery life in windows?
- if have stick macos, thats alright, version of macos has longest battery life?
- after first leg of flight i'll head transit next connecting flight. there lounges power sockets, assuming macbook's power depleted then, how further can charge in 1.5 hours?

little bit out of topic: friend has given me on of cigarette lighter charger macbooks, know meant cars, planes have them well?

reading!

i not flyer pretty sure plans have type of charging available not cig outlet.

got frequent flyer know here!
