mbp retina extreemly hot and 4h battery

hi all
after resarch best mac me decided on mbp retina. 5th mac after 2 mac g4's, macbook, imac , mba 13" promised child.
start think mistake!
use mac lightroom work , occasional photoshop stacking , pano work.
right start noticed mbp gets hotter , faster mba ever did. wasn't worried much.
3 days ago wanted mirror movie via apple tv , stopped not 5min movie fan went on , machine unpleasantly hot! today wanted tethered photo shoot , burned hands on bottom of machine. have no thermometer hot touch comfort, , had camera on live view without doing yet.
other "bad thing" noticed battery life max of 3-5 h. surfing net via wifi, or cataloging pics in lightroom. know not scientific guess got double time out of late 2012 mba 13"!!
worst is, when contacted local istore here in south africa, had attitude.the laptop more 7 day warranty old , there nothing can except book in , send away :(
3 questions
mbp's known getting hot??
battery lasting 3-5h max
, apple has such bad after-sales attitude, or can not loose 10day old laptop 3 weeks because of manufacturing fault if one??
appreciated
in advance

there many factors impact battery life, , running more resource-intensive apps shorten time can run on battery. can plug in , run on ac power, if it's available. see battery life charge section of following link details, including tips on how maximize battery life.
link below should answer most, if not all, of battery/charging questions. if haven't done so, highly recommend take time read it.
if you're not doing so, use istat pro (free) or istat menus ($16) accurate readings of temps, fan speeds, etc., rather relying on sense of touch or sound. forum member has posted copy of istat pro has been "tweaked" enhance compatibility recent os x versions. can download here.
intel processors used in macs designed automatically shut down prevent damage if overheat. cpu tjmax = 105c (221f), gpu tjmax = 100c (212f) on i3, i5, i7 processors. (source: intel)
unless there rare defect in mac, temps within normal operating range, considering workload being put on it. websites flash content, games , other multimedia apps put higher demand on cpu/gpu, generating more heat. normal. if you're putting high demands on system, such gaming or other multimedia tasks, expect temps rise , fans spin accordingly. it's mac doing job maintain temps within normal range.
quite normal mac become extremely hot touch during intensive operations. aluminum body transfers heat more other materials used in computer casings, feel heat more. doesn't indicate it's overheating , not harm computer hot touch.
fans in macs on when mac on, spinning @ minimum speed varies mac model. spin faster needed keep temps @ safe level. if fans spinning without increased heat, try resetting smc. (pram/nvram has nothing these issues, resetting not help.)
intake , exhaust vents in of computer near hinge on mac notebooks (except new mbp retina display, has intake vents along sides @ bottom). imac vent on of computer. make sure vents remain unblocked allow computer perform @ best. flash-related issues:
