Just restored 5s, gained back over 6gb of storage

chanced upon website via daring fireball, , on advice, decided , restore iphone 5s via itunes. incidentally, iphone decided run amok today. battery ran down 30% noon despite not doing it, , whole device felt hot (implying background processes running, couldn't identify them). hard reset resulted in screen flickering non-stop (which resulted in hard reset rid of issue).

odd. prior restoring, had huge yellow chunk of "others" took half bar. after restoring, free space jumped 26gb 32gb, , yellow bar shrank minuscule portion. tried searching online, answers vary on constitutes "others" portion of phone.

has had similar experiences?

insight on issue appreciated. :p

Getting Prohibitory Sign on startup - But not harddrive

the prohibitory sign appeared when started macbook pro. read through various options listed on forum , none of them fixed problem. assumed hard drive or corrupt operating system. reinstalled os x. still had problem. finally, swapped out old hard drive new hard drive. still had problem!! when tried old hard drive in spouse's macbook pro (same model) booted fine! when hard drive (which working fine) macbook pro, got prohibitory sign. i'm assuming not hard drive other hardware issue in macbook pro. have insights hardware issue might be? thanks!!   huh, that's odd. thought prohibitory sign meant operating system wasn't compatible system trying boot it. try this: whilst turning on system hold command , v keys, system *should* briefly boot verbose , halt @ point prohibitory icon appear. should sort of error/information way luck!   ...
