need advise , expertise please configuration:
purchased 2012 mac mini server i7 quad-core 2.3mhz , want use work final cut pro x.
not i7 2.6mhz - no longer on internet new purchase anywhere.
amateur video stuff, cannot afford mac pro. have been using mac air 2013 i7 video editing/rendering belkin thunderbolt express dock, don't want burn out , need else. $ short.
people, waiting new mac mini's , disappointed... have 27" cinema display (still it-not thunderbolt) , why don't imac or macbook (have macbook air).
previous setup:
1. mac mini 2009 (upgraded ram 8 gigs, upgraded stocked 350 gig hd drive 128 ssd drive , used external drives) - still fast general stuff (to surprise, yosemite) , used basic video/audio stuff, need more power.
2. used 2013 i7 air external drives rendering , worked well, again should not use air heavier fcx or logic stuff.
main question:
best configuration/upgrade or whatever maximize configuration video editing-rendering?
current configuration:
1. mac mini i7 late-2012 quad-core 2.3 mhz, 4 gigs. ram, 1 tb drives (2x-500gigs - apple stock).
2. 27" cinema display (not thunderbolt) - still , use (may save , sell 27" thunderbolt display day).
3. belkin thunderbolt express dock (used 2013 air - worked well). not use since bought mac mini late 2012 server
4. 3x usb-3 3 tb drives (1x porsche design, 2x seagate-s)
thoughts upgrade:
1. upgrade stock 4 gigs ram 16 gigs (no brainer).
2. take off server , either use os x mavericks or yosemite (or mountain lion?) - not sure.
3. not sure - should upgrade hd drives ssds when able - $
4. if use external drives rendering, 1 tb stock hd drives ok or should upgrade ssd when able - $?
5. need raid external drives or stand-alone ok..?
issue:
since use 27" cinema display, plug 1 thunderbolt port, cannot use thunderbolt drive speed (save $ buy thunderbolt external hd someday) unless sell 27" cinema display , thunderbolt display have thunderbolt port. why may need use belkin dock station.
, appreciate responses.
