iMac Early 2008 Broken - Extracting the hard drive

imac 24" 2008 died

apple won't @ because it's "vintage", took repair shop , it's video card. found replacement card on ebay $350, installation , shipping i'm not sure it's worth repair.

unfortunately don't have exported backups applications (iphoto albums, itunes library, accounting data, ...). i'd know, if remove hard drive broken machine , mount in external enclosure, can boot hard drive on macbook or imac? basically, want know if can use run apps , export data while running installed applications old machine.
