2014 Mac Mini for XBMC/PLEX

hi all,

i'm looking 2014 mac mini used htpc using xbmc , plex.

wonder whether entry-level model ($499, 1.4ghz, 4gb ram) sufficient or should $699 model (2.6ghz, 8gb ram).

if you're serving media , not transcoding, base model more enough. in fact used model few years ago fine. (2009 or later have hdmi)

bumping memory ensure longer usable life of machine though. go 8gb @ minimum media server, it'll useful few years. 16gb if ever plan on doing else it. that's more need now think you'll need 3 years now.

New 2014 Mac Mini as living room media unit... general questions :)

hi everyone, relatively new apple world (came on android/windows) can impressed , happy made switch hoping insight experts here new setup. got new 2014 mini our living room media unit (will playing music, netflix, movies, internet browsing etc) - havent hooked yet. have 2 bookshelf speakers, 1 sub woofer, , center speaker sound setup goes avr, , of course flat screen tv. 1) question -- mini support 2.1 sound via hdmi avr? losing audio quality or audio features using mac mini? 2) internet browsing, there app or interface make ui better fit living room tv? i've read font/icons can hard read if enlarge them because mac mini not meant big tv? 3) plan plex server , plex media player mac mini, other loading movie/tv collection , playing off tv, there else cool missing here can this? 4) if have mac mini media unit, there purpose in owning roku @ point? thank you!!   ...
