Can I use apps from a different partition?

i've had bad luck when upgrading 1 os newer one. so, have followed advice number of people, , created partition have installed yosemite test before abandoning old mountain lion. however, don't have access apps, how can test yosemite? there way access apps on hd drive new partition? i've considered using migration assistant, seems want move things old partition new one. don't want move anything, in case decide want keep on using mountain lion.

thanks!

you can access other partition new os. open disk utility , make partition mount. sur use admin user account.
select applications folder of old user , sure have privileges, in finder info , provide read & write privileges.
apps need updated in order work in new os.
approach log in in app store account , install relevant test.

migration assistant goos know apps not work , move date new partition.

when installing new os use hard drive/ssd clean install , use migration assistant.

remember make backups.
