I think I have a sickness...

as of may know, love g4 towers , have been working on completing collection of them(the yikes! continues elude me).

collecting aside, still use computers, , 1 of heavily used dual 1ghz quicksilver. while computer serves needs well, has problems. biggest because "low end" 800mhz 2002 model, i've never been able access l3 cache.

so, i've dumped lot of time , effort upgrading g4. in addition 120 , 160gb triple boot leopard, tiger, , os 9(although no longer os 9 due video card issues), i've populated expansion slots. have motorola wireless card functions airport extreme card, scsi card(to run slide scanner), usb 2.0/fw400 card, , modified radeon 9600xt. computer fulfills needs, i've felt lack of l3 cache holding back.

little while ago, bought "real" dual 1ghz on marketplace here. it's pretty in stock configuration other maxed ram , radeon 9000, has scsi card installed factory dual 80gb drives.

when computer arrives, going replace current dual 1ghz system-the wifi, usb, , video cards going directly in it. i'd planned transplant hard drives directly, going take chance "clean things up" little bit. have wd blue 500gb ide drive that's unused, , partition , clone current leopard , tiger installs onto drive. i'll take refurbished 160gb wd bought recently(i bought couple of them because price cheap) , split shared storage between 2 oss scratch disk(i have run scanner in tiger, while photoshop install in leopard).

system may flashed firegl x3(assuming can flashed), should beef performance. did have concerns losing adc support, have external adc power supply that's doing nothing, that's no longer concern.

once that's done, real fun can begin.

i'm planning on taking current heavily used qs2002 stock 800mhz. still qs2002 computers(for native big drive support) , try find use it. have lot of attachment computer, , have done lot of work on it, don't plan on going anywhere.

have unused dual 800mhz, , drop dual 1gz it-since dual 800 has 1mb l3/processor, i'm hoping l3 cache on 1ghz work in it. again, no real plans that, i'll try find something.

finally, leaves me dual 800mhz card. have empty qs case in closet that's cosmetically nice. may or may not have logic board and/or psu(i don't recall) not else , not processor. had cosmetically beat 1 parted out while ago. missing processor, did have logic board , psu(optical drives are, of course, no big deal). ended recycling case, not before i'd stripped every internal part removed, every plastic cosmetic panel on outside undamaged.

between case, parts other system, , dual 800mhz card have, should able put working system.

last 1 unsure, @ minimum should leave me 3 working systems. that's not counting 2 other quicksilvers gave away to(what hope are) budding ppc enthusiasts.

quicksilver remains favorite g4 case design, i'm happy have representative cross section of different models.

if ever yikes!, need line g4s "family portrait." maybe i'll without one, have g4-upgraded b&w that's close enough yike!

lots of hassle minimal gains

time better spent building 1 hackintosh
