OK to swap home folders across machines?

hi, wondering if there wrong taking home folder configured on imac , copying on macbook pro or two. imaging purposes - have same configuration of apps , settings. realize there may differences in plist files , things of sort relating energy saver settings. imac not have fusion drive don't think make difference in case anyway. mac os x version same on machines.

can guys think of plan pose problem?
using migration assistant better drag-dropping? if there significant difference in transfer speed?

yes.
can't copy entire "home" folder 1 mac another.
won't work.

can't copy sub-folders of home folder, either.
"sub-folders", mean folders named "pictures", "movies", "music", etc.
these not "ordinary folders" -- believe what's called "symbolic links" , can't "simply copied" via finder.

however:
can copy contents of above-named folders.
say, select one, several, or of files in "pictures" folder on 1 mac, , copy them other mac.

believe there apps out there designed "synchronize" 2 macs, i've never used them , don't know them.
