Managing two internal hard drives in a Macbook Pro

upon reaching storage limit of internal 7200rpm 750gb sshd, replaced optical drive 5400rpm 1tb sshd.
macbook pro in question top end 2011 15" model running yosemite.
750gb drive user folder, applications, etc stored.
1tb store music, photos , movies along other miscellaneous things.

have noticed significant decrease in battery performance since installing second drive. expecting decrease not extent have experienced.
itunes, lightroom , fcpx seem work second sshd.

experiences 2 internal hard drives in macbook pro?
how manage 2 internal hard drives?
aside replacing sshds ssds, thoughts , experiences running raid arrays?
performance tips can share getting out of setup (circumstantial , installing ssds out of question now)?

macbook pro, os x yosemite (10.10.1), 2011

i have ssd , hdd, battery life better hdd media drive , in original drive bay, hence can spin down when not in use.

if have 2 hdds spinning part of sshd drives (as must guess function), yes i'd expect worse battery life.

i'm not sure how of current draw on stock machine due hdd fair proportion when cpu lightly loaded i'd expect, consequently if double component see shorter battery life.
