How long will deleteing Time Machine backups take?

hey everyone,

needed delete time machine backup of harddrive no longer use opening time machine , selecting "delete backups of *drive name*" did 1.5 hours ago , progress bar still in 'loading' phase (not frozen!)

attempting delete backups of drive contained 700gb worth of files. 2 questions really:

1) doing right way or should delete every individual folder in time machine drive hard drvie?

2) how long take on average?

again everyone!

you're doing right. in order maintain integrity of internal database, time machine needs handle deletion of individual files/folders. manipulating folders inside backups.backupdb folder manually a bad thing do.

considering size of drive in question, indeed take quite while. there may more 700 gb of backups of 700 gb of data-- @ least 1 full backup's worth, plus smaller incremental backups, scattered across countless folders. exercise in patience.
