besides hard drives, else possible upgrade on system? looking @ 3.2ghz quad xeons 150 watt power vs current 80 watt disappointing. maybe upgrade 3.0ghz 200mhz, don't know if should spend time , effort in upgrade. i'm not looking upgrade right maybe within 6 months down road slowly.
i'm surprised machine supported 10.5 way till now. how think system supported after yosemite?
personally think it's got @ least 1 more os revision before it's abandoned, have longer run. depends on apple "officially" supports, probably--i suspect 10.8+ on 1,1 , 2,1 mac pros, there ways prolong shelf life.
sticking ssd in boot drive provide nice boost off raid drive in terms of speed. other that, can graphics card. don't think of 2008 processor upgrades worth cost get, reasons you've outlined.

i reinstalled fresh bootcamp (windows 7 x64) on imac running yosemite. i'm having difficulty installing drivers, had first bypass issue x64bit drivers running through cmd admin errors "service 'key agent/mac hal' (keyagent/machaldrivers) failed start. verify have sufficient privileges start system services." have tried following instructions seemed answer this: i had exact same problem, on 17" mbp. in case, win7 event manager reported bootcamp 3.2 services failed install, in particular keyagent service (and without no apple keyboard , functions , apparently bootcamp icon doesn't show in system tray). event manager said bootcamp installer did not have sufficient permissions, went dial down user account control (uac) settings (in fact, turned off). should have seen when bootcamp 3.2 update running window ask permission continue (allow software install). instead, there silent failure. ok, turning off uac gives p
