Intel Launches New Broadwell Chips Appropriate for MacBook Air and 13-Inch MacBook Pro

intel today announced launch of full set of "broadwell-u" processors, opening door updated versions of apple's macbook air , 13-inch retina macbook pro. chip launch in line leaked timeline last july pegs release of more powerful broadwell chips appropriate 15-inch retina macbook pro late july or august of year.

outlined anandtech, new broadwell-u chips include set of 4 28-watt chips ranging 2.5 ghz 3.1 ghz in base frequency , featuring new iris 6100 integrated graphics. core i5-5257u, core i5-5287u, , core i7-5557u chips appear allow direct upgrades haswell-u chips used in 13-inch retina macbook pro. while new chips include 100 mhz cpu speed increase on haswell counterparts, number of other improvements, regard graphics, should make improved performance.

on macbook air front, intel offering 4 different 15-watt broadwell-u chips appropriate lineup, of new chips carrying improved hd 6000 graphics. base clock speeds range 1.6 ghz 2.2 ghz compared 1.4 ghz , 1.7 ghz options available in current macbook air, , associated upgrades in broadwell should yield significant performance improvements new chips.

looking @ potential release dates apple's broadwell systems, intel tells anandtech new broadwell-u chips shipping vendors, first systems based on new chips expected end of month. systems based on chips using iris graphics may more toward end of current quarter.
