Debating whether or not to upgrade my macbook

i have 2012 macbook pro retina, 8gb, gt650m, 2.3ghz.

thinking upgrading more current model. battery on machine on 1000 cycles , needs replacing, have can describe few white flicks behind screen (which confusing me) , threw graphics error when ran system check recently.

issue repair mac cost me quite bit, quoted £1000 gb replace logic board, screen fix , battery, thinking spending bit more , upgrading not entirely sure model upgrade to. spend lot of time in photoshop , cinema 4d. questions thusly :

1. current 650m vs intel iris pro, kind of improvement see? have read few articles around net , benchmarks not seem overly different. wouldnt mind see improvement. highest priced model nvidia card 1 option pick lot of money me spend right @ moment.

2. yosemite, on mac has pretty messed few things up. doesnt run quick, less said safari better , graphically has caused issues , takes longer boot up. issues there on more modern machines?

New 2014 Mac Mini as living room media unit... general questions :)

hi everyone, relatively new apple world (came on android/windows) can impressed , happy made switch hoping insight experts here new setup. got new 2014 mini our living room media unit (will playing music, netflix, movies, internet browsing etc) - havent hooked yet. have 2 bookshelf speakers, 1 sub woofer, , center speaker sound setup goes avr, , of course flat screen tv. 1) question -- mini support 2.1 sound via hdmi avr? losing audio quality or audio features using mac mini? 2) internet browsing, there app or interface make ui better fit living room tv? i've read font/icons can hard read if enlarge them because mac mini not meant big tv? 3) plan plex server , plex media player mac mini, other loading movie/tv collection , playing off tv, there else cool missing here can this? 4) if have mac mini media unit, there purpose in owning roku @ point? thank you!!   ...
