Clean Install and saving old user data?

i researched downloading yosemite usb drive , doing clean install on new mac mini bought.

i'd clean install macbook , parents mac mini, both have large amount of data on them don;t want loose.

there way erase drive, install yosemite fresh, , restore user data?

need know how restore user data on fresh yosemite install?
 

take copy of data onto external drive first 1 of:

carbon copy cloner
time machine
drag , drop

if don't have such copy should seriously consider putting backup plan in place, otherwise risking data total loss.

New 2014 Mac Mini as living room media unit... general questions :)

hi everyone, relatively new apple world (came on android/windows) can impressed , happy made switch hoping insight experts here new setup. got new 2014 mini our living room media unit (will playing music, netflix, movies, internet browsing etc) - havent hooked yet. have 2 bookshelf speakers, 1 sub woofer, , center speaker sound setup goes avr, , of course flat screen tv. 1) question -- mini support 2.1 sound via hdmi avr? losing audio quality or audio features using mac mini? 2) internet browsing, there app or interface make ui better fit living room tv? i've read font/icons can hard read if enlarge them because mac mini not meant big tv? 3) plan plex server , plex media player mac mini, other loading movie/tv collection , playing off tv, there else cool missing here can this? 4) if have mac mini media unit, there purpose in owning roku @ point? thank you!!   ...
