Can I watch a movie on my HDTV played from my laptop?

it seems it's impossible. don't have words how frustrated have set. bought hdtv not watch movies on laptop anymore. thought straight forward have configured. how mistaken.

have macbook air late 2011. bought common thunderbolt adapter hdmi , cable first store found selling kind of accessories. got home , plugged , then... nothing happens. research on google , found out not 1 same issue. recommended "apple certified" moshi adapter. 50 bucks. thought, ok, it's not cheap solve problem. got home, plugged whole thing , then... nothing happens. upset @ point. spent day without being able watch anything. got apple store next day , told them not working. guy helping me out clueless. impatient , thought apple tv because cannot go wrong. how mistaken. got home. plugged everything... , works... kind of. tried turning airplay , played vlc movie had on hard disk. started happiness didn't hold long. started have lots of lags on image , sound , joy started fade. again, googled issue , not surprise, lots of people had same issue, again. lots of suggestions made , found 1 link ( http://support.apple.com/en-sg/ts4215) recommended bring router same room laptop , tv were. did that. surprise or maybe not, lag became waaaay worse , signal between apple tv , router became worse (how possible?!?! before on settings / network showing 4 small filled circles. shows 2).

tomorrow (and day pass), go store buy ethernet cable plug router apple tv directly , see happens. if doesn't work, can recommend me store still sell old vhs players? thanks!!!!

p.s.: if can give me before throw in garbage can, awesome. thanks!
 

dunno what's wrong mac's display port (did check displays settings in system preferences, mac output matches tv's abilities?).
should now able connect macbook , :apple:tv directly, without wireless access point.
, last, not least, why watch movies via airplay mirroring, when simple airplay (if it's in :apple:tv compatible format) or beamer (if it's not)?

Error installing Key Agent drivers in Windows 7

i reinstalled fresh bootcamp (windows 7 x64) on imac running yosemite. i'm having difficulty installing drivers, had first bypass issue x64bit drivers running through cmd admin errors "service 'key agent/mac hal' (keyagent/machaldrivers) failed start. verify have sufficient privileges start system services." have tried following instructions seemed answer this: i had exact same problem, on 17" mbp. in case, win7 event manager reported bootcamp 3.2 services failed install, in particular keyagent service (and without no apple keyboard , functions , apparently bootcamp icon doesn't show in system tray). event manager said bootcamp installer did not have sufficient permissions, went dial down user account control (uac) settings (in fact, turned off). should have seen when bootcamp 3.2 update running window ask permission continue (allow software install). instead, there silent failure. ok, turning off uac gives p
