need advice - best method for backup

hi everybody!

got myself new 1.5tb usb3 external hdd (western digital).

problem need backup following:

1. gf laptop (windows 8.1)
2. mbpr (osx latest version)
3. 1 or 2 external flash drives

there method use time-machine while still having capability backup other locations on same external hdd ?

if not, format should use? u suggest need? exfat?

hey rel1988,

believe make 2 separate partitions on external hdd , use 1 time machine , other rest of backups (use different formats if need to). need format drive, though , lose information on it. if have you'd keep, suggest backing , them proceed partition , formatting.

New 2014 Mac Mini as living room media unit... general questions :)

hi everyone, relatively new apple world (came on android/windows) can impressed , happy made switch hoping insight experts here new setup. got new 2014 mini our living room media unit (will playing music, netflix, movies, internet browsing etc) - havent hooked yet. have 2 bookshelf speakers, 1 sub woofer, , center speaker sound setup goes avr, , of course flat screen tv. 1) question -- mini support 2.1 sound via hdmi avr? losing audio quality or audio features using mac mini? 2) internet browsing, there app or interface make ui better fit living room tv? i've read font/icons can hard read if enlarge them because mac mini not meant big tv? 3) plan plex server , plex media player mac mini, other loading movie/tv collection , playing off tv, there else cool missing here can this? 4) if have mac mini media unit, there purpose in owning roku @ point? thank you!!   ...
