Starting a company, looking to upgrade MacBook Pro

hey everyone,

brand new forum! use 13" mbp (2011) 2.4ghz i5, 4gb ram, 500gb hdd , running yosemite. worried not enough both ios , android development business needs have. laptop needs perform consistently without quitting, using business lifeline. looking possibly upgrade if need-be, prefer 13" 15" , looking @ 13" mbp retina display, 8gb ram, 256gb ssd. wondering if upgrade advisable or necessary anyones experience. use external displays not need increased screen space on laptop.

i think machine should plenty reliable, backup , archive plan in place. going add need screen real estate (imho) necessity development, sounds have covered. upgrading new machine [with more ram, haswell] give performance boost, , retina display, have option run @ higher, scaled, resolution when you're mobile. still, can time ram upgrade 2011.

edit: if go 2014, plan on getting full 16 gb ram. it's not can changed later.

New 2014 Mac Mini as living room media unit... general questions :)

hi everyone, relatively new apple world (came on android/windows) can impressed , happy made switch hoping insight experts here new setup. got new 2014 mini our living room media unit (will playing music, netflix, movies, internet browsing etc) - havent hooked yet. have 2 bookshelf speakers, 1 sub woofer, , center speaker sound setup goes avr, , of course flat screen tv. 1) question -- mini support 2.1 sound via hdmi avr? losing audio quality or audio features using mac mini? 2) internet browsing, there app or interface make ui better fit living room tv? i've read font/icons can hard read if enlarge them because mac mini not meant big tv? 3) plan plex server , plex media player mac mini, other loading movie/tv collection , playing off tv, there else cool missing here can this? 4) if have mac mini media unit, there purpose in owning roku @ point? thank you!!   ...
