Jony's iPhone 6 Problem

i'll preface saying 6. returning rounded edges of original , gorgeous screen make worthy upgrade on 5.

there 2 areas of phone don't seem have jony ive polish , hoopla around gtat have theory why. have apple's precedent of every new phone having 3 things, larger screen, thinner last , lighter last (even slightly). have lead designer spending ample amount of time researching watches new apple watch. 2 things bothered me picking 6 first time how light , protruding camera.

let's follow theory why. jony convinced new watch buddies premium product iphone should have sapphire screen high end watches. jony convinces tim pony cash gtat , running apple watch , iphone screens made of sapphire. jony , team set out making 6 beginning sapphire class cover design constraint. 1 thing know sapphire effect whole design of 6 is heavier current glass screen. places jony in tough situation, keep apple thinner, lighter, bigger needs sacrifice weight alone in body , battery meet called "steve jobs" design iteration standards.

team it. sapphire screen iphone 6 bigger, lighter , thinner current phone. jony's better judgment way criteria mean camera lense has stick out. in mind amazing sapphire screen hide every other fault of phone. , guess else sapphire is, harder glass , not susceptible bending...so prototypes made, tooling ordered , orders placed.

crushing blow comes design team, gtat not have sapphire ready launch due either manufacturing, yields, finishing or whatever. apple scrambles gorilla glass on order 6 able launch on time. jony first time in career since steve has release phone unhappy since gtat not pressured steve. losing sapphire makes phone light in hand, protruding camera (which tried hide in photos) looks ridiculous design standpoint , bendgate born less rigid phone. jony in last ditch move save face convinces tim move apple watch launch iphone launch though it's not operational. removes himself iphone other mandatory "the beautiful phone ever" tagline , goes on , on research, beauty , design of new apple watch.
