12 Gb Mac slow - DiskWarrior found errors

my wifes mac running os x 12gb of ram. intermittently began taking long time respond. colored spinning wheel became regular feature. dont know macs thought simplest solution may upgrade yosemite. upgrade fine, issues persist.

ran disk utility , found nothing, diskwarrior found following damaged data. indicate problem - or if not, result concern - , if so, can repaired?

many thanks.

diskwarrior scanned disk named "imac" checking files , folders damage , potential compatibility problems.

disk: "imac"
property list data checked in 18,890 files.
resource data checked in 6,806 files.
maximum folder depth on disk 26. not exceed maximum recommended depth. location: "desktop"

file: "localized.rsrc"
detected resource header damaged , cannot repaired
location: "imac/applications/microsoft office 2008/microsoft messenger.app/contents/resources/ norwegian.lproj/"

file: ".com.cocoastuff.apple.plist"
detected property list data damaged , cannot repaired. malformed tag on line 1
location: "imac/library/preferences/"

file: "windows.plist"
detected property list data damaged , cannot repaired.
location: "imac/users/deahna/library/saved application state/ com.imagineersystems.mocha4ae_adobe.savedstate/"

file: ".installoptions67.plist"
detected property list data damaged , cannot repaired. unexpected character @ line 1
location: "imac/library/application support/"

file: ".appoptions67.plist"
detected property list data damaged , cannot repaired. unexpected character @ line 1
location: "imac/users/deahna/library/application support/"

explanations:
folder depth: number indicates how many folders nested inside each other. if disk contains 3 folders , folder inside folder b , folder b inside folder c, disk has maximum folder depth of three. folders nested can cause software compatibility problems.
property list: standard file format storing data , used store preferences. names of these files end .plist file extension. corrupt property list files can cause system instability.
resource data: older file format storing data , used store preferences. names of these files end .rsrc file extension. corrupt resource data files can cause system instability.

i can think of several possibilities:

first, possibly drive damaged, cause files become unrecoverable or problematic. bad blocks on hd or ssd cause spinning beach balls show up. use scannerz check drives , ssds types of problems. have low cost version available don't care named scannerz lite, allow know if there problems (and that's "lite" version tell you). full version can check bad cable problems cause problems well. disk warrior checks bad index files , mismatched file contents, whereas scannerz looks @ actual media. 2 perfect complements of 1 another.

second, had index corruption of serious nature might have been caused sudden power outage or shutting system off during boot. latter seems cause index problems because file system isn't in stable state system booting up. i've found can literally trash drive indices starting system , force powering off before booting process gets started. if did upgrade on existing system, , sounds did, it's quite possible updating process may not have looked @ or checked problems pre-existed on system, hence problems persist. re-format , clean install fix problem if case.

third, there file system incompatibilities between yosemite , previous releases of os x. doubt problem if @ yosemite volume using os earlier mavericks not able recognize of files because of way yosemite uses compression in of data being stored in resource forks because mountain lion , earlier versions don't understand type of compression being used. occur have working on volume in target disk mode , evaluating system using mountain lion or earlier.

hope helps.
