mbp 13 inch, which to get: 8 or 16, 128 or 256 ? programming, photoshop

hi there, (sorry i'm new here, didn't know thread ask in)

i'm looking buying 13 inch macbook pro retina(never owned mac before), on budget - hoping not go beyond $1,400 before taxes.. been saving money , hope don't have go on longer.

i've been looking through various threads try find out whether 16gb ram worth compared 8gb. lots of posts kept saying rather more storage, while others saying ram it's not upgradable, if i, say, 8gb+256 storage, preferable opposed 16gb+128 ? can't quite afford both, that's thing.

explain why more storage better more ram if is? 256 being beneficial performance, how so? (sorry im bit dum these things  )

want laptop last while i'm looking timeproof option, that's why i'm contemplating on 16gb... want learn , practice rhino, thats 1 big thing i'm worried setting hate when programs slow big time.

also, big confusion have external drive that's decent capacity, still need have internal 256 or 128 enough? i'm wondering if native os data take lots of memory, or other unexpected storage space lost? wouldn't mind keeping movies , photos on external drive anyway.

want machine wouldn't dummy , able handle multitasking - internet, rhino, ps, processing, vids etc... (plus prob other programming-related programs exploring)

please help,

sorry can't manage ever sound cohesive, hope tried write above makes sense .. please ask me more questions if being generic or unclear, so appreciate help, need human's advice, tired of google...

thank again time!

if want laptop last, you'll want 16 gb ram. way you're insuring in way laptop able stand tough tasks current , future programs throwing @ it. amount of storage have not affect laptop's performance. if i'd 16+128 config, provide power need. since have external you'll fine long save ssd programs , external of files. amount of storage leisure, if can afford more, more. when comes ram, if want future-proof machine you'll need prioritize getting can get.
