DHCP not working with MacBook Pro

hi -

1 of our users on large college network has 2008 macbook pro running lion. other day laptop froze, , ever since has not been able pick ip addresses via dhcp, assign 169.254 range address. problem exists on both ethernet & wi-fi. have tried following without success;

removed proxy entries/pasv mode
new location
different user account
trashed 'systemconfiguration' folder
removed college entries keychain
installed usb ethernet adapter
reset pram

ethernet cable , wallport connected work fine other pcs.
running out of ideas - suggestions please?

hi,

have tried must done in such case.

might add : use disk utility "check disk" , "repair permissions".

if no success, reinstall system (without wiping disk).
cmd + r on boot (os x recovery).

New 2014 Mac Mini as living room media unit... general questions :)

hi everyone, relatively new apple world (came on android/windows) can impressed , happy made switch hoping insight experts here new setup. got new 2014 mini our living room media unit (will playing music, netflix, movies, internet browsing etc) - havent hooked yet. have 2 bookshelf speakers, 1 sub woofer, , center speaker sound setup goes avr, , of course flat screen tv. 1) question -- mini support 2.1 sound via hdmi avr? losing audio quality or audio features using mac mini? 2) internet browsing, there app or interface make ui better fit living room tv? i've read font/icons can hard read if enlarge them because mac mini not meant big tv? 3) plan plex server , plex media player mac mini, other loading movie/tv collection , playing off tv, there else cool missing here can this? 4) if have mac mini media unit, there purpose in owning roku @ point? thank you!!   ...
