Cannot connect to Yosemite Macbook over local network

i've begun having connectivity issues on local network. have 3 macbooks, 1 on 10.10 (yosemite) 1 on 10.9.5 (mavericks), , 1 old 1 on 10.6.8 (snow leopard). share files between these computers on daily basis, , typically connect without problem using finder sidebar.

recently, haven't been able connect yosemite macbook (maybe since upgraded, think might have started before then). able connect computer (or iphone, matter), both mavericks macbook , snow leopard macbook. no problems. yosemite macbook appears in sidebar under "shared." when try connect other computer yosemite macbook, not connect automatically, click "connect . . ." , hangs quite while before displaying following message:

there problem connecting server "computer name". server may not exist or unavailable @ time. check server name or ip address, check ypur network connection , try again.

yosemite macbook connects internet , other 2 macbooks without problem, nothing can connect it.

have tried turning file sharing on , off in system preferences, tried adding specific shared folders, tried adding user. under "options" have tried every combination of using afp and/or smb , selected user account smb file sharing important. have attempted connect using finder: connect server . . . (command-k). attempted connection using cifs://[ip address]. tried connecting using local host name jennings.local

have reset wireless router (a time capsule). i've removed files thought might relevant in both user:"account":library:preferences folder , system wide library preferences folder. restarted each mac multiple times, , between each step yosemite mac.

no expert, tried ping yosemite mac, , not appear responding pings, or @ least each of 10 sent through network utility had "request timeout"

have tried firewall off , on. have assured not in stealth mode.

have looked @ console, , i'm not sure means , whether should looking @ console host or client computer. on yosemite mac, i'm getting following message repeating constantly: "

macbook pro retina display, os x yosemite (10.10)

same type of problem

have connectivity issues since yosemite upgrade machine running win xp

in case doesn't seem login due "unknown user name or bad password" although credentials correct.

shares seem work other machines, including 1 under 10.6.8
, connection machines not under yosemite works fine also

not sure same issue yours figure answer here might ;-)

on topic:
1) suppose have activated different services wanted shared, knowing might have been deselected in upgrade process. lost network settings when upgrading (my manual ip had been reverted dhcp auto)
2) can share screen screen sharing?: if yes suspect culprit sharing prefs

can't give more have reached technical ability's limits!!
