Upgrading 2012 macbook hard drive

hi,

long story short macbook out of warranty , hard drive failed (according apple themselves). said required straight hard drive swap cost £110. bought hard drive myself , went replace when start macbook cannot see new hard drive?

hard drive purchased samsung st500lm012 , said compatible macbook. looking @ hard drive notice seems have sort of connector macbook cable doesnt have connection for. on picture it's 1 @ far left. have bought wrong hard drive?

that standard laptop sata drive , should work fine. how did boot after installing drive? need boot disk or internet recovery , there format drive disk utility install os. have tried that?

New 2014 Mac Mini as living room media unit... general questions :)

hi everyone, relatively new apple world (came on android/windows) can impressed , happy made switch hoping insight experts here new setup. got new 2014 mini our living room media unit (will playing music, netflix, movies, internet browsing etc) - havent hooked yet. have 2 bookshelf speakers, 1 sub woofer, , center speaker sound setup goes avr, , of course flat screen tv. 1) question -- mini support 2.1 sound via hdmi avr? losing audio quality or audio features using mac mini? 2) internet browsing, there app or interface make ui better fit living room tv? i've read font/icons can hard read if enlarge them because mac mini not meant big tv? 3) plan plex server , plex media player mac mini, other loading movie/tv collection , playing off tv, there else cool missing here can this? 4) if have mac mini media unit, there purpose in owning roku @ point? thank you!!   ...
