when plugged iphone in, iphoto auto opened , crashed ... , did unity. took while error messages/ close app thingies appear , apps close.
however, unity still showing in force quit list, no else. used this see other ways of force quitting, , unity shows in force quit list. selecting , clicking force quit nothing. i'm unable shut down or reboot, message "your mac hasn't restarted because "unity" failed quit. continue restarting, quit "unity"." cancel/ try again.
same error message displayed if try shutdown via power button.
i'm running retina macbook pro on yosamite.
[edit: 2 mins after posting this, rebooted :e
i'd still interested in replies though, in case happens again, thanks.]
if unable application quit using force quit, can try using activity monitor see if there other hung processes causing system, or application hang.
once open activity monitor, click view -> processes. if unable force quit form here, may have force reboot pushing , holding power button. ensure work saved (within running applications) before this.
