Question about new Macbook Pro & Dell U2713HM

i bought new macbook pro week ago replace older 1 crashed. well. got new monitor, dell referenced in title. @ moment i've connected dell's displayport port going thunderbolt port on laptop. i'm using cable:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/b00c7rjqpy/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=utf8&psc=1

so, i'm wondering if need return monitor. it's nice displaying @ high resolution makes text small 53 year old eyes, , giving me headache longer use it. resolution 2560x1440.

wish wave magic wand , reduce resolution bit. but, if change sys prefs "best display" "scaled" , see can select, it's either 2560x1440, or 1080p, fuzzy.

tried research on front end , pick played macs. surprised many mac folks loved monitor, i'm regretting purchase. there other option available me here, or stuck either trying used resolution, or returning it?

fyi, decided join here , ask @ forum after finding thread:

guy had different problem me, i'm not sure if advice there applicable situation or not. appreciate guidance y'all might have, thank you.

that great monitor, no need let go. had similar experience 50 year old eyes. here have done:

1 - install app called tinker tool found here: http://www.bresink.com/osx/tinkertool.html - handy little app allows make changes system settings including font sizes not available in os x system preferences. i'm running fonts around 16 17 pts.

2 - use firefox browsing 2 add ins called default full zoom level , called theme font , size changer. these 2 combined allow better browsing experience easier our "older" eyes.

3 - apps allow font size settings in mac os x (like mail.app) - use these increase font size can.

4 - desktop icons in os x - can increase icon size , font via desktop view options. have icons set @ 100x100 text set 15 points allows easy viewing of desktop icons.

5 - if use ms office, once launch 1 of apps, increase default zoom level 150% or above. i've yet found way set permanently, maybe else does.

hope these you. have allowed me enjoy 27" dell monitor. if these don't work, consider dell u2414h monitor @ 1080p. used 1 of while , had no issues. little smaller in size still awesome monitor. have 1 sitting in closet i'm put on ebay, pm me if interested.
