Which MacBook should I get?

so bet topic has been butchered death , apologize here dilemma:

i'm in grade 9 (i'm 14) , in high school , require computer school (programming, business, comp tech) way, plan use other tasks such light gaming (a game called kerbal space program other gaming needs accomplished speedy mac , iphone 6 digress) , web browsing , like. before asks paying own money, tried pay parents won't let me (they i've been hard on myself lately).

i'm looking mac (obviously apple fan here) portable , last 4 years. price range around $1150cad (can go $1300). looking @ certified refurb store , macmall because better deal new.

recommendations?

oh , ssd cannot stand hdds. 8gb nice since can't swap out memory or else matter. forgot mention doing light video editing well.

New 2014 Mac Mini as living room media unit... general questions :)

hi everyone, relatively new apple world (came on android/windows) can impressed , happy made switch hoping insight experts here new setup. got new 2014 mini our living room media unit (will playing music, netflix, movies, internet browsing etc) - havent hooked yet. have 2 bookshelf speakers, 1 sub woofer, , center speaker sound setup goes avr, , of course flat screen tv. 1) question -- mini support 2.1 sound via hdmi avr? losing audio quality or audio features using mac mini? 2) internet browsing, there app or interface make ui better fit living room tv? i've read font/icons can hard read if enlarge them because mac mini not meant big tv? 3) plan plex server , plex media player mac mini, other loading movie/tv collection , playing off tv, there else cool missing here can this? 4) if have mac mini media unit, there purpose in owning roku @ point? thank you!!   ...
