Macbook backlight behaving strangely

so, macbook 2008 model , backlight has gone crazy. works fine, can boot machine there no problem. machine starts boot backlight might shut off during loading or after while when in os. picture can seen faintly. if shut display lid , open (atleast now) comes back.

cable gone bad? similar experiences?

after noticed put macbook aside , switched pc laptop still works (also 2008).
thought maybe should check mb , try fix it.

Is this battery use normal

i have 2014 11-inch haswell macbook air i5 1.4 / 8 gb / 128 gb. had since october, 3rd mba. clean install of yosemite. virtually no apps installed. no flash. if have bluetooth off , brightness 2/3 might scrap 6 hours of battery use. not using the web. i'm typically using nisus or basic text editor (bbedit) browsing web, on text based sites, no flash, adblock on, 5 or 6 tabs 4.5 hours. watching film 2.5 hours. if leave computer on nothing open, , go sleep disabled, lasts 7 hours. it's not yosemite. getting same on mavericks. know people 12 hours or on 11-inch haswell wifi off, , writing on text editor. took apple shop, nothing showed on battery test, did clean install in case of runaway process (ironically, have runaway process giving me 2 hours battery life total, that's on thread)   there many factors impact battery life. see battery life charge se...
