Help: Should I replace my laptop or upgrade?

i considering upgrading laptop because running slower used to. have macbook pro mid 2009, core 2 duo 2.53ghz, version 5,5 4gb of ram. main use of laptop recording , processing music using protools 11. however, simple tasks seem resource taxing , slowing down laptop. plan fresh install of yosemite, wanted know if planned upgrade better buying new macbook. notice upgraded difference?

1) upgrading ram 4gb 8gb ($100)
2) upgrading hd stock 5400 rpm ssd owc:http://eshop.macsales.com/item/owc/ssd7e3g240/ ($140)
total: ~$240 vs upgrading new machine i5 or better.

yes, you'll notice difference.

whether that's enough of upgrade meet expectations different story. if you're using computer in professional capacity time money, think should absolutely consider taking money , investing in new computer practical.
