External hard drive recovery

so upon plugging in external hard drive time machine backup , bunch of other files, wasn't mounting finder @ all. after running through bunch of things in disk utility, did mount finder , can see base of hard drive , no further content in folder , can't transfer either. disk utility @ point, running me through circles tests drive. else can recover data? also, think @ genius bar since stopping apple store in next few days buy new hard drive.
 

do chance have second mac try drive on?

might try (no promise of success):
- power mac way off.
- disconnect problem drive
- restart mac, finder
- re-connect drive (does mount on desktop?)
- if doesn't mount, wait while (say, 5 minutes). finder try repair drive has difficulty mounting.
- happen?

New 2014 Mac Mini as living room media unit... general questions :)

hi everyone, relatively new apple world (came on android/windows) can impressed , happy made switch hoping insight experts here new setup. got new 2014 mini our living room media unit (will playing music, netflix, movies, internet browsing etc) - havent hooked yet. have 2 bookshelf speakers, 1 sub woofer, , center speaker sound setup goes avr, , of course flat screen tv. 1) question -- mini support 2.1 sound via hdmi avr? losing audio quality or audio features using mac mini? 2) internet browsing, there app or interface make ui better fit living room tv? i've read font/icons can hard read if enlarge them because mac mini not meant big tv? 3) plan plex server , plex media player mac mini, other loading movie/tv collection , playing off tv, there else cool missing here can this? 4) if have mac mini media unit, there purpose in owning roku @ point? thank you!!   ...
