Speeding up an old mac pro

i have old mac pro 3,1 speed little.
has 14gb 667mhz ram in it, , bunch of old-fashioned hard disks.

improve performance more - replacing 667mhz ram 800mhz ram (the fastest computer can take), or replacing system drive ssd?

ideally both, know :p but, sadly have choose.

i'm running 2006 1,1 12gb of 667mhz ram, , crucial 512gb m4 ssd (3gb sata).

New 2014 Mac Mini as living room media unit... general questions :)

hi everyone, relatively new apple world (came on android/windows) can impressed , happy made switch hoping insight experts here new setup. got new 2014 mini our living room media unit (will playing music, netflix, movies, internet browsing etc) - havent hooked yet. have 2 bookshelf speakers, 1 sub woofer, , center speaker sound setup goes avr, , of course flat screen tv. 1) question -- mini support 2.1 sound via hdmi avr? losing audio quality or audio features using mac mini? 2) internet browsing, there app or interface make ui better fit living room tv? i've read font/icons can hard read if enlarge them because mac mini not meant big tv? 3) plan plex server , plex media player mac mini, other loading movie/tv collection , playing off tv, there else cool missing here can this? 4) if have mac mini media unit, there purpose in owning roku @ point? thank you!!   ...
