Advice About "Dead" iMac

i have older imac. it's ten years old , use guest/kids computer. surfing web, watching netflix. anyway, had feeling might go wrong soon, hard drive (i think, else) makes weird noise every , then. today, had shut off move power strip , won't turn on. tried "trick" find online , make sure unplugged it, unplug bit , try again. nothing. so....i made appointment @ apple store in 2 day wondering if in meantime had advice in: forget it, way out of coverage , repair won't worth money.... or did try restart way.....or how hell should know what's wrong it, go store....

thank in advance.
 

sounds maybe bad power supply inside. @ ten years old sure not spend money on fixing it.

maybe 1 of new $200 chromebooks kids use?

New 2014 Mac Mini as living room media unit... general questions :)

hi everyone, relatively new apple world (came on android/windows) can impressed , happy made switch hoping insight experts here new setup. got new 2014 mini our living room media unit (will playing music, netflix, movies, internet browsing etc) - havent hooked yet. have 2 bookshelf speakers, 1 sub woofer, , center speaker sound setup goes avr, , of course flat screen tv. 1) question -- mini support 2.1 sound via hdmi avr? losing audio quality or audio features using mac mini? 2) internet browsing, there app or interface make ui better fit living room tv? i've read font/icons can hard read if enlarge them because mac mini not meant big tv? 3) plan plex server , plex media player mac mini, other loading movie/tv collection , playing off tv, there else cool missing here can this? 4) if have mac mini media unit, there purpose in owning roku @ point? thank you!!   ...
