iCloud photo vs photo storage usage

hi,
thought had sound knowledge of how icloud photo meant work. after uploading photo library, have 2 options: keep high res photos on phone (i.e. taking full space) or thumbnails , save gb opn phone.

camera roll 5.7 gb before activating icloud beta option. had no sync photos mac. activated , morning finished uploading 1200 photos , videos.

however, usage shows 5.8 gb photos? made sure "optimise storage" option selected, should have low res thumbnails , not full photos on device, why taking more space before activating cloud option?

i'm confused!

New 2014 Mac Mini as living room media unit... general questions :)

hi everyone, relatively new apple world (came on android/windows) can impressed , happy made switch hoping insight experts here new setup. got new 2014 mini our living room media unit (will playing music, netflix, movies, internet browsing etc) - havent hooked yet. have 2 bookshelf speakers, 1 sub woofer, , center speaker sound setup goes avr, , of course flat screen tv. 1) question -- mini support 2.1 sound via hdmi avr? losing audio quality or audio features using mac mini? 2) internet browsing, there app or interface make ui better fit living room tv? i've read font/icons can hard read if enlarge them because mac mini not meant big tv? 3) plan plex server , plex media player mac mini, other loading movie/tv collection , playing off tv, there else cool missing here can this? 4) if have mac mini media unit, there purpose in owning roku @ point? thank you!!   ...
