How does Time Machine Handle new Hard Drive Installs

hey everyone, question related yosemite sort of hope i'm posting in correct area.

bought ssd wife christmas , going put in macbook. she's not running yosemite yet , wanted avoid upgrading because computer older , don't want bog down @ least until upgrade ram 8 gigs (some of may have seen post few weeks lol).

have flash drive set yosemite since did install on macbook pro few days ago brother. that, installed os x fresh without using time machine since brother wanted clean slate.

have time machine of wife's computer, if install new hard drive , boot flash drive select restore time machine up, install yosemite flash drive , restore files , settings or install mavericks else intact? feel install yosemite , put files in place tbh.

in advance anyone's help!

you can boot right tm disk. install new ssd option key boot tm disk. normal recovery screen. there use disk util format ssd mac os extended (journaled). quit disk util , click restore , mavericks , apps , data put on ssd.

after done reboot ssd , go system prefs , in startup disk pane set ssd boot drive.
