Photos downloaded from iCloud Photo Library missing GPS metadata

also posted on apple discussion forums...

photos exist in icloud photo library missing gps metadata when downloaded computer.

have tested couple scenarios...

in one, took photo iphone. photo propagated "photos" on other ios devices , "photos" app on icloud.com.
on either ios device, in "moments" section of photos app, photo shows proper location noted. when view photo in detail, has proper date , time well. using both apps "exifwiz pro" , "metapho", gps coordinates , location info show no problems.
on icloud.com, photo shows proper location in "moments" section.

takeaway: gps metadata intact in photo while in "photos" app of ios , icloud.com.

when download photo file icloud.com mac (click little cloud down-arrow icon) , run "exiftool" on photo, gps data missing.

second test, took 1 of thousands of photos stored on dropbox , imported "photos" in icloud.com mac. before uploading, ran "exiftool" on photo , had full complement of metadata including gps tags.
after upload, photo, several years ago, showed on ios devices , on icloud.com. on devices showed proper location noted in "moments" view of photos app. went proper place (several years back) in timeline.
again ran "exifwiz pro" , "metapho" against uploaded photo on ios devices , again, gps coordinates , location info present.

takeaway again: gps metadata intact in uploaded photo while in "photos" app of ios , icloud.com.

next, re-downloaded mac photo had been manually uploaded , tested "exiftool". guess what. no gps metadata tags in downloaded copy.

in 2 separate instances, 1 photo taken in ios , uploaded photo, gps tags stripped metadata when downloading photos icloud.com computer.

specifically, missing metadata tags are:
gps latitude ref
gps longitude ref
gps altitude ref
gps time stamp
gps img direction ref
gps img direction
gps altitude
gps latitude
gps longitude
gps position

valuable information photos exported icloud photo library!

know if "feature" or bug in icloud photo library?

yes! noticed few days ago. photos emailed iphone or sent mac using airdrop contain original images creation date , gps data.

image downloaded icould photos has new creation date of time of download , no gps data @ all. if icloud creating new version of image rather providing copy of original.

until sorted out can't use backup of images unfortunately. dropbox/google+/flickr etc not have these issues
